Trivia Facts From The Bad Guys And The Bad Guys 2

In the Japanese dub, all the characters who were voiced by celebrities in the previous film are now voiced by professional voice actors, since the movie got a streaming release in Japan rather than a theatrical release. In this particular case, the non-celebrities are the voice actors who voiced them in the spin-off films The Bad Guys: A Very Bad Holiday and The Bad Guys: Haunted Heist, despite those films being released by Netflix rather than Amazon Prime Video.

Preview Piggybacking: The first trailer was first attached to early screenings for Wicked, alongside the first trailer for the live action remake of How to Train Your Dragon.

Shipper on Set: In an interview, Zazie Beetz (voice of Diane) expressed that she really liked the idea of Wolf and Diane as a couple and wanted to see their relationship progress in the sequel. She was delighted that they share their first kiss by the end.

Completely Different Title: As with the first one, this movie's Italian title is Troppo Cattivi 2 (Way Too Bad 2).

Actor-Shared Background: Bulgarian Pigtail is voiced by Bulgarian actress Maria Bakalova.

Missing Trailer Scene:

The scene where the Bad Girls shanghai the Bad Guys into working for them while having them tied in their hideout, and most prominently Kitty's introduction, is heavily changed from what was shown in the original trailers. Some of the dialogue from the trailer is used in other scenes in the final film, The scene where Shark knocks Luggins out in a panic was changed in the trailer so she's still suspicious of the Bad Guys, making Shark's reaction more understandable, while in the final film she's fully on board with working with them.

Novelization First: As with the previous film, the Scholastic novelization was released less than a month prior to the film's theatrical release.

Late Export for You:

The Australian theatrical release was in September 2025, a month after being released in North America and Europe, Japan would get a streaming release on Amazon Prime Video on December 2025, five months after the original American release.

You Sound Familiar

Michael Godere, who's voiced Mr. Wolf in non-movie installments of the Bad Guys franchise, had a brief voice cameo as the voice of Craig, the bank manager who interviews Mr. Wolf.

The Japanese dub is basically cast with celebrities; Mr. Wolf is voiced by Kabuki actor Matsuya Onoe, Mr. Snake by TV actor Ken Yasuda, better known for voicing Yu Nanba in Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Ms. Tarantula by TV actress First Summer Uika, Jack by the comedian Shohei Osada, Mister Piranha by the singer Fumito Kawai from the boy band A.B.C-Z and Tiffany Fluffit by the former Fuji TV announcer Maasa Takahashi. The only professional voice actors voicing leading roles are Yūko Kaida as Diane Foxington, Kimiko Saito as Misty Luggins, Kappei Yamaguchi as Professor Marmalade and Hisako Kyoda as the old lady.

Completely Different Title: The movie is known in Italy as Troppo Cattivi (Way Too Bad).

Content Leak: The contents of the Blu-ray, including the Maraschino Ruby short and deleted scenes, were leaked online in late May 2022, a month prior to the official release.

Kids' Meal Toy: Carl's Jr. and Hardee's had a set of activity sheets in March 2022.

Novelization First

The novel based on the film was released nearly two months before the film itself. Because the novel comes from an earlier draft of the film, some dialog and scenes are slightly different from the film. Notably, the Love Crater Meteorite is described as glowing pink, which was before the film's color coding was finalized and the glow was changed to blue.

  • Playing Against Type:
    • In the Japanese dub, and while not the first time he had voiced villains, this is one of the few times we hear Kappei Yamaguchi, as Professor Marmalade, to voice the Big Bad of the story, rather than the hero or at least one of the main villain
    • In the Italian dub, Daniela Calò, who usually plays reasonable, gentle mother/friend figures, plays the gruff, aggressive Misty Luggins.

Staff-Created Fan WorkChibeTTo worked on the film as a supervising animator and character designer, responsible for notable chase and action sequences featured in the final film. They also drew a character sketch sheet about a What If character for fun: Mr. Wolf and Diane's spunky teenaged daughter

Aluminum Christmas Trees: For those outside of North America, the "push pop" seems odd — but it is an actual type of popsicle (ordinarily made with frozen grape or orange sherbet) that's sold there.

Friendly Fandoms:
  • In addition to the usual furry fandom overlap that comes with high-profile movies focused on animals, many Lupin III fans adore this movie. Mr. Wolf and Chief Luggins are dead ringers for Lupin and Inspector Zenigata, and the story plays out like one of Lupin's more manic adventures. It helps that Lupin III: The First, another movie praised for faithfully adapting 2D animation aesthetics into 3D CGI, came out just three years before The Bad Guys.

  • Ho Yay:
    • Wolf and Snake, per the books.
      • In the cafe scene, when Mr. Wolf calls out for the check, Mr. Snake looks at him like he's in love with him. They actually both spend a good deal of their time looking at one another this way.
      • A lot of the emotional tension is focused on them, culminating in Wolf being the only one Snake says he loves out loud and hugging each other when it looks like they're about to fall to their deaths. As they do, Snake nuzzles his shoulderDirector Pierre Perifel says that, while they aren't a couple in his head personally, "those characters live also by themselves", and thus he doesn't know, there may very well be something there.
    • Ms. Tarantula, aka Webs, and Diane Foxington have some hints of subtext between them. Webs admits that she voted for Foxington, gives a very excited "Uh, yes?!?!" to Diane asking her on a "girl's trip" (riding a motorbike and hacking a bunch of cars), and, upon being asked where she learned to hack, does an obvious attempt at waving it off and acting cool, before admitting that it was mostly YouTube.
  • LGBT+ Periphery Demographic: The film already had a pretty sizeable queer following, but Mr. Wolf in particular is especially popular among bi viewers due to the Ship Tease he has with Diane as well as the Ho Yay between him and Mr. Snake.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • The main character being a suave, attractive looking wolf-man caused the internet to waste no time making jokes about the film being a trap to lure in furries, with many members of the fandom even going along with it.
    • The furries killed the Wizarding World. The Bad Guys was released around the same time as both Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022) and Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, managing to beat out the latter at the domestic box office alongside the former. Since both Sonic and this film are Popular with Furries, this led to jokes that the furries ultimately killed off the Harry Potter franchise.
    • Using screen captures of the film as a base to draw characters over has become a common trend in the Furry Fandom, with the opening chase sequence and Mr. Wolf dancing with Diane being the two most common sequences to choose images from.
    • The Bad Guys 621. The film's DVD and Blu-ray release date was June 21st, with the number "621" being commonly associated with a furry Image Booru. This spawned Schmuck Bait encouraging people to search for "The Bad Guys 621" under the pretense of it being the film's release date.
    • Lois is a police officer. Because Chief Misty Luggins is played by the same person who plays Lois Griffin on Family Guy and they are both red-headed, fair-skinned women, it became very popular for Family Guy fans to joke about Lois becoming a police officer.
    • Diane Foxington from the bad guys is like Spamton from deltarune chapter 2 A user by the name of Superfox369 posted a theory on the Schaffrillas Productions subreddit making comparisons between Diane Foxington and Spamton from Deltarune
  • One True Threesome: Mr. Wolf/Mr. Snake/Diane is popular for those who enjoy the dynamic Mr. Wolf has with both characters enough that they can't pick just one to ship him with.
    • The dance between Mr. Wolf and Diane Foxington at the charity gala. It's a tightly-choreographed example of Characterization by Action that encapsulates their Character Development and growing bond — Wolf starts off hesitant and skeptical, but is goaded by Diane into moving closer with her, and by the end of it they're an effortlessly comfortable and highly-synchronized duo. To top it off, the animation perfectly captures the dancing styles of Sam Rockwell and Zazie Beetz, making this a rare example of the Ink-Suit Actor trope that doesn't revolve around facial characteristics.
The first Italian trailer was met with skepticism because of the dubbing for Mr. Wolf and Diane, played by two actors with no prior experience in the field, being perceived as amateurish. However, the response to the film was ultimately positive, and the dubbing, despite having some Gratuitous English, was reevaluated for the better.

If Doom kissing Snake while inside his mouth wasn't already hilarious, some dubs make it even funnier by having Piranha ask why Snake is eating Doom.

  • Fanfic Fuel: The movie gives fanfic/fanart creators lots of potential and material to work with.
    • The Bad Guys living happier, better life and going on missions while working for ISGLOP with some involving similar elements from the books.
    • The Bad Guys adjusting to living in a world where most think they're dead.
    • Diane adjusting to being a full-time member of the titular gang.
    • The actual impact Diane and Wolf are left with after the former is exposed as the Crimson Paw. Especially Diane, either depicted as genuinely being happy that she is out of governing or a Stepford Smiler hiding her pain.
    • How Pigtail and Doom are enjoying Reformed Criminal life and how Kitty is spending her jail sentence.
    • Going into more depth with Kitty Kat's character with most including the cut backstory between her and Diane.
    • Many interesting ideas for ship fics about Wolf x Diane and/or Doom x Snake, especially since three of them cannot be seen in public for being secret agents.
  • Fan-Preferred Cut Content: While the general reception to the movie is positive, when it was revealed that the sequel was originally going to focus more on Diane and have her be former partners with the Bad Girls, fans expressed disappointment that this idea wasn't used, especially with how it could have matched up with the books.
  • Die for Our Ship: Unlike Diane, Doom tends to be strongly hated by Snake/Wolf shippers. The reason that she's disliked while Diane is safely ignored is because they feel that Doom changes Snake's personality far too much, with (almost) all of Snake's dialogue revolving around her in some way, leaving very little interaction between Snake and Wolf that doesn't involve talking about Doom.
  • They pushed marketing even further for furry drivers, with an add-on the app Waze that contains voice packs of Mr. Wolf  flirting with the driver.
  • Squick: Mr. Snake and Doom's idea of kissing involves the latter putting her entire head inside Snake's mouth. The other Bad Guys are disgusted by this.
